asked the Minister of Labour how many of the 2,120 women released under Class B by mid-January have taken up tilt employment for which they were released; what proportion of this number have been employed by laundries; and whether he will make a statement on the result of his recent talk with representatives of the laundry industry.

Mr. Isaacs:

I regret that statistics on the points mentioned in the first two parts of the Question are not available. Officers of my Department recently met representatives of employers in the laundry industry and made it clear to them that as women can no longer be directed to employment, further steps to attract labour were in the main for the industry itself; at the same time they undertook to continue to do everything possible to help the industry in its present difficulties
