HC Deb 02 April 1946 vol 421 cc191-2W
Mr. Ward

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation how many persons are employed in his Department; how many are qualified pilots; and, of these, how many have completed more than three hours solo-flying in the last six months

Mr. Thomas:

The number of persons employed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on 1st January, 1946, the last date for which complete figures are available, was 1,616. Out of 33 Headquarters staff whose duties are concerned with the operational aspects of civil aviation, 30 have qualified as pilots; of these 17 have flown more than three hours during the past six months I regret that precise information regarding the whole staff is not available, but the duties of the administrative, Clerical and industrial staff are not such as to call for qualified pilots
