HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 cc71-2W
Flying-Officer Bowden

asked the Minister of Works how many of the 750 temporary houses allocated to the City of Leicester have been erected and occupied; and the date on which this work was first commenced.

Mr. Tomlinson

Two sites for 139 of the 750 temporary houses allocated to the City of Leicester have been handed over to the Ministry of Works. Work on the first site began on 12th March and 22 of the 28 houses thereon have been handed over to the local authority for letting. Foundation work for the houses on the other site started on 4th July and is still in progress. Delay in these cases has been due to a variety of unavoidable obstacles, but it is hoped that in future more rapid progress will be made.
