HC Deb 09 October 1945 vol 414 c87W
Sir I. Fraser

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will remove Purchase Tax from wallpaper which is now coming into production after six years.

Mr. Dalton

I will certainly consider this suggestion, but I cannot anticipate my Budget statement.

Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the number of persons who require deaf aids, he will now discontinue Purchase Tax on low tension batteries as their cost constitutes the major expenditure on deaf aids and prohibits their use by any but the relatively well-to-do.

Mr. Dalton

No, Sir. While certain high tension batteries specially designed for use with hearing aids have been exempted from Purchase Tax, I cannot extend this concession to low tension batteries, since these are also used for many other purposes.
