§ Wing-Commander R. Robinsonasked the Minister of Labour what steps he has taken to secure the complete implementation of all the provisions of the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944.
§ Mr. IsaacsVocational training has been made available for the disabled in a wide variety of occupations and this scheme is being steadily extended. A residential centre for industrial rehabilitation was provided as an experiment in 1943. It is too early yet to say whether further centres of this type will be required but consideration is being given to starting experimental centres of other types. As a preliminary to introducing the statutory obligation on employers to employ a quota of persons registered as disabled, the Register of Disabled Persons was opened on 25th September.
With regard to the provision of employment under sheltered conditions for those who, after registering, are found to be incapable of employment under ordinary conditions, a scheme has been prepared 109W for assisting voluntary organisations making such provision and the Disabled Persons Employment Corporation which was established in April, 1945, is arranging to open special workshops.
