§ Miss Rathboneasked the Minister of Health if he will consider improving the housing accommodation for families by assisting those householders or tenants who have sufficient garden or yard space to put up open-air shelters, attached to the house or wall, available for day or night use by making it possible for them to obtain materials necessary for the roofing, supporting posts, side screens and anything else necessary for the construction of a simple form of shelter.
§ Mr. BevanAll the materials which would be needed for this purpose are in very short supply and local authorities must concentrate their efforts on the provision of permanent houses. They have powers, however, to permit private persons to erect structures of this kind in appropriate cases, and if the hon. Lady has any particular case in mind I am prepared to investigate it.
