HC Deb 27 November 1945 vol 416 cc1252-3W
Brigadier Prior-Palmer

asked the Secretary of State for War what steps he proposes to take to indemnify soldiers who have been demobilised in error after 20 years' service and who after a lapse of time have been ordered to report for further duty to complete 21 years' service.

Mr. Lawson

If a long-service soldier is released prematurely, loss of pension is involved and it is normally in his own interest as well as in that of the Army, that he should be recalled to complete time for a pension. If, however, the recall is claimed to be against the soldier's interest in any individual case, I am prepared to consider whether it can be waived, with the soldier's consent. I am now dealing with one such case sent in by the hon. and gallant Member.
