§ Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps have been taken to implement the recommendations of the advisory committee on the treatment and rehabilitation of miners in the 1284W Wales region suffering from pneumoconiosis.
§ Mr. ShinwellThe research unit in South Wales under the direction of Dr. C. M. Fletcher, set up as a result of the Committee's report is now at work. The programme cover the cause, treatment and prevention of the disease and is being kept under review by a joint committee of representatives of my Ministry and of the Medical Research Council. Present work of the unit includes an investigation of cases already certified in order to assess their condition in relation to the type of employment followed since leaving the mining industry, and the establishment of a small rehabilitation and research centre. In addition, dust preventive measures continue to receive unremitting attention by the industry and the Inspectors of Mines.
