§ Major Beamishasked the Secretary of State for War what sites in Burma, Assam and Malaya have been selected as military cemeteries for those who were killed in action or died on active service in those countries; what progress has been made with the work of establishing these cemeteries; and whether the next-of-kin are being promptly informed of the final resting place of their relatives in all cases.
§ Mr. LawsonPermanent cemeteries have been established in Assam, at Imphal and Kohima, and in Burma at Rangoon, Meiktila, Mandalay, Magwee, Sahmaw, Akyab and Maungdaw. The work in Assam is virtually complete and the work of concentration in Burma is being carried out as rapidly as resources and local conditions permit. In Malaya a preliminary reconnaissance has been carried out, but information is not yet sufficiently firm to allow of a final selection of cemeteries being made. The next-of-kin of deceased are notified as soon as information regarding the final resting place is received from overseas. It will be appreciated that in some cases there is a little1248W delay owing to the shortage of staff both at home and overseas but every effort is made to complete notifications as expeditiously as possible.
