HC Deb 27 November 1945 vol 416 c1252W
Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will consider extending the period of two months to six months in respect of the family allowance which is paid to the dependants of a man serving a sentence of penal servitude and who, in these circumstances, is transferred to the Reserve.

Mr. Lawson

No, Sir. The allowance is part of the soldier's emoluments, which cease in such circumstances like those of a civilian. He already enjoys an advantage over the civilian by the continuance of the allowance for two months.
