HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 c1034W
Mr. E. P. Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will state broadly the principles of the prewar laws for protecting the French film industry from undue foreign competition; and will he consider how to adapt similar legislation in the interests of this country.

Sir S. Cripps

Apart from a provision that foreign films must be "dubbed" in the French language if they were shown in more than a small number of theatres, the broad principle of the prewar French film legislation was to restrict the number of films allowed to be imported.
