HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 c1046W
Lieut.-Colonel Rees-Williams

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that conditions in the camp known as H.M.S. "Roseneath" are unsatisfactory due to overcrowding; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this state of affairs.

Mr. Alexander

Yes, sir. As stated by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary on Wednesday last in answer to a Question by the hon. Member for Leominster (Mr. Baldwin) a Combined Operations Depot was transferred from Southend to Rosneath to make available the residential and hotel property in which it was accommodated. This transfer coincided with a speed-up of the flow of men for demobilisation, and caused a temporary slowing-up of the rate of releases, which in turn caused the overcrowding. The machinery is now working smoothly again, and the accumulation is being rapidly reduced. With a view to giving further relief, I cm hoping shortly to make available additional accommodation.
