HC Deb 26 November 1945 vol 416 c1041W
Mr. King

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what period of service chaplains of the Indian ecclesiastical establishment arc expected to perform in India before being granted home leave.

Mr. A. Henderson

Chaplains do not have to serve for any specified period before being able to take home leave. Owing to the complete stoppage of home leave from India in the early years of war and the resultant accumulation of chaplains who had been without such leave for many years, it is impossible to apply normal leave arrangements at the present time. Every effort is, however, being made to speed up the grant of home leave, but the number of chaplains who can be spared at any one time is limited, and passage accommodation for civilians is still scarce.
