§ Mr. McLeavyasked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the increasing financial responsibilities placed upon local government authorities arising from the progressive development of public services, particularly in respect to education, housing and public health services, he will ask the House to appoint a Select Committee to examine and report upon the existing rating system, with particular reference to the desire for a more equitable and uniform system of rating, the operation of the Derating Act and the rating of land values.
§ Mr. BevanThe Government are aware that reforms are needed in the present system of rating and valuation, but I doubt whether the setting up of a Select Committee of this House at the present stage would be the best way of considering the matter.
