HC Deb 14 November 1945 vol 415 cc2261-2W
Major Lloyd

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many new industries have been directed to Scotland in the last 12 months.

Mr. Ellis Smith

We have no powers to direct industry to any part of the country. We are, however, actively encouraging industrialists to establish new factories in Scotland. During the past 12 months, 79 building schemes, totalling more than 2,000,000 square feet of additional factory space, have been approved for Scotland and 13 Government factories have been allocated for civilian production.
