§ Captain Gammansasked the President of the Board of Trade what quantity of timber was landed in United Kingdom ports in October; and how this quantity compares with his estimate of timber imports for the same period.
1864W
§ Sir S. Cripps, pursuant to his reply (OFFICIAL REPORT, 5th November, 1945; c. 894, Vol. 415, No. 31) supplied the following statement
Owing to the seasonal nature of the shipments from Eastern Canada and the Baltic, the bulk of timber imports arrive in the summer and autumn. During the month of October landings amounted to 242,000 tons, as compared with anticipations of 500,000 tons.
