HC Deb 12 November 1945 vol 415 c1871W
Mr. P. Freeman

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that it is not practical for an allotment holder to leave his land uncultivated for four years to avoid eel-worm in potatoes; and as his Department cannot supply adequate quantities of calcium cyanamide, what steps he proposes to take to assist the cultivation of potatoes in Newport.

Mr. T. Williams

My Department's advice to allotment holders is to adopt a system of rotational cropping such as is recommended in Dig for Victory Leaflet No. 1, a copy of which I am sending to my hon. Friend. This system avoids the growing of potatoes on the same part of the allotment year after year, and is the best means at present available for dealing with eel-worm attacks.
