Lieut.-Colonel J. R. H. Hutchisonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement as to the resumption by the victorious nations of conferences to draw up peace treaty terms; and whether consideration has been given to the desirability of introducing into those terms a minimum wage standard and a maximum working day on the defeated nations.
Mr. Noel-BakerThere is nothing I can usefully say about the resumption of discussions about the Peace Treaties. I naturally hope that the present deadlock1874W will be broken as soon as possible. As regards the second part of the Question, I do not think it would be feasible to include among the actual peace terms standards of wages and working hours. I think these are matters which should be dealt with through the machinery of the International Labour Organisation which has made so important a contribution to this question in the past.
