HC Deb 12 November 1945 vol 415 c1874W
Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether there is any inter-allied committee charged with the responsibility of dealing with displaced persons in Europe; and whether any co-ordinating scheme exists between the Allies as to how these homeless people are to be treated and where they are permanently to be accommodated.

Mr. Noel-Baker

U.N.R.R.A. has a wide mandate to care for and repatriate displaced persons in Europe. In zones which are in military occupation, U.N.R.R.A. acts under the overall responsibility of the military authorities. His Majesty's Government hope that the vast majority of all displaced persons will decide to return to their respective countries of origin. A long-term plan for dealing with the rest is now under consideration.
