HC Deb 12 November 1945 vol 415 cc1866-7W
Dr. Barnett Stross

asked the Minister of War Transport whether he is aware that licences to purchase new motor-vans are not granted, except upon the condition that the vehicles to be replaced are destroyed; and whether, in view of the shortage of transport, this condition will now be abandoned.

Mr. Barnes

Save in exceptional circumstances licences are not granted for new vehicles as replacements unless the old vehicle has reached the end of its useful life, when the best thing to do with it is to break it down for useful spares and scrap. I could not agree that such vehicles should be kept on the roads.
