Colonel Llewellin

The prices paid in each year of the war for British raw beet sugar have been as follows:

per cwt.
s. d.
1939 12 7
1940 18 0
1941 18 4
1942 22 4

These prices include Excise Duty preference, which has varied from 5s. 1d. to 5s. 7d. per cwt. and refer to raw sugar of 96° net analysis, corresponding to a polarisation of about 98°. The prices are based on the average c.i.f. cost of raw sugars imported into the United Kingdom each year.
