HC Deb 14 February 1945 vol 408 c246W
Mr. Lipson

asked the President of the Board of Trade why there is no representative of Cheltenham on the Price Regulation Committee for the area which sits at Bristol; and will he either appoint a representative from Cheltenham on the committee or arrange for a sub-committee of the main committee to be set up at Cheltenham in view of the many important matters affecting the borough that come within the committee's purview.

Captain Waterhouse

Members of Local Price Regulation Committees are not appointed to represent particular towns, but as traders, consumers and independent persons in the region as a whole. I am anxious, however, that members should be drawn from different parts of each region, and when a vacancy occurs on the South Western Committee the hon. Gentlemen's suggestion will be borne in mind. I understand that the Committee did at one time appoint sub-committees to meet locally, but that this arrangement proved unsatisfactory.
