HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 cc1073-4W
Mr. Sparks

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will permit members of the Home Guard to make a gift of their uniforms to distressed persons in Central Europe who are in need of clothing this winter; and will he make the necessary arrangements for this to be done.

Mr. Lawson

As I informed hon. Members on Wednesday last, when announcing the disbandment of the Home Guard, the uniforms of members of the Home Guard will now become their personal property, to dispose of as they please. As regards the despatch of clothing to distressed persons in Europe, I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement made on Thursday last by my right hon. Friend the Minister of State in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Ipswich (Mr. Stokes).
