Darlingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has considered the Report, a copy of which has been sent to him, of the officials of the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers made to the Housing Committee of Edinburgh Corporation to the effect that 10 percent. of bricklayers are out of work in the city; and, in view of the housing plans, what steps he proposes to take to secure full employment.
§ Mr. BuchananYes, Sir. I am aware that on the 12th December 16 bricklayers were registered as unemployed in Edinburgh. Work is available for them on corporation housing schemes, which include some 400 houses approved but not yet begun, and the chief housing executive officer with whom my Department have been in touch is arranging to offer them employment on these schemes.
