§ Mr. Osborneasked the Minister of War Transport if he has any statement to make about the speeding up of trains; and when does he expect expresses to run to their prewar schedules.
§ Mr. BarnesA number of trains have already been accelerated and others will be speeded up as practicable. This must be a gradual process, but it is the general aim to restore prewar speeds before the end of the next year. Progress will depend on the return of experienced staff to railway service and/or the making good of the present heavy arrears of repairs and renewals.
