HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 cc363-4W
Mr. Williamson

asked the Minister of War Transport, in view of the fact that Canadian Servicemen married to British women are now being demobilised and their wives in Britain are anxious to join them as soon as possible, if he will give any information as to when transport will be made available.

Mr. Barnes

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement I made in the House on 15th October in reply to a similar question, to which there is little to add. The Canadian military authorities have recently announced that it is hoped to complete the transportation of these wives by August, 1946. While this is our present hope, the whole question is being kept under review with a view to ensuring that, subject to other urgent commitments, everything practicable is done to speed up the movement.
