§ Mr. J. Hudsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if it is still the policy of his Department to ban the use by German prisoners of war of Miss Ruth Fry's books, the. "Quaker Adventure" and the accounts of her visits to Russia; and whether he will now permit these books to be sent to the prisoners.
Mr. McNeilThese books were carefully examined when they were received372W last May, at which time it was felt that certain passages taken apart from their context might be misused for their own ends by Nazi elements in the prisoner of war camps. I take the view, however, that the restrictions on literature available to prisoners should be progressively, relaxed as their re-education proceeds, and I am now prepared to authorise the issue of the books referred to.
