HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 c348W
Mr. Gilzean

asked the Minister of Works if he is aware that, of the original allocation of 800 temporary houses to Edinburgh, only 50 have been delivered; and will he take steps to remedy this position.

Mr. Tomlinson

The number of houses delivered to sites in Edinburgh for erection is now 150. Progress has been hindered by a local lack of building labour, particularly painters, but all possible steps are being taken to overcome this difficulty.

Mr. Willis

asked the Minister of Works what number of temporary houses it is intended to supply Edinburgh by 31st December, 1945, and by 31st March, 1946, respectively.

Mr. Tomlinson

It is expected that by 31st December, 1945, 175 temporary houses will have been delivered to Edinburgh. Their erection will be completed as quickly as possible. The number to be delivered by 31st March, 1946, will depend on the progress made with site preparation work.
