§ Mr. ShinwellAverage earnings per shift and wages cost per ton in the second quarter of 1945 show increases of 103 and 136 percent. respectively when compared with the position in the corresponding quarter of 1939. After allowance has been made for payments made to miners for shifts not worked at the time of the VE-holidays, the percentage increases are seen to be 96 and 128 respectively.
