§ Sir P. Hannonasked the Minister of Education whether any special provision is being made in secondary schools for the encouragement of instruction in the Spanish and Portuguese languages, in view of the urgent need of organised effort in Latin America for the restoration of British export trade.
§ Mr. EdeThe position of the Spanish and Portuguese languages in the curriculum of grammar schools was fully discussed in the Report of the Norwood Committee. I have no doubt that local education authorities and governing bodies are ready to encourage instruction in these languages in so far as the circumstances of the schools and the demands of the curriculum permit. My right hon. Friend is already taking steps to increase the supply of persons qualified to instruct in these languages where they are required.
