Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Health how many deaths from smallpox were registered in 1942 and 1943; and how many from vaccination, post-vaccinal encephalitis, or other disease connected with or caused by vaccination.

Mr. Willink

The information concern-leg the deaths in England and Wales in 1943 referred to by my hon. Friend is as follows:

  • Deaths classed to smallpox: Nil.
  • Deaths classed to vaccination: Nil.
  • Deaths classed to post-vaccinal encephalitis:
  • Five (males aged 2 months, 6 months, 2 years and 17 years, female aged 5 months).

In addition there was one female death (aged 20 years) classed to post-vaccinal myelitis. For corresponding information relating to 1942, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answers given to my hon. Friend the Member for East Middlesbrough (Mr. A. Edwards) on 10th November last.
