HC Deb 08 March 1944 vol 397 cc2070-1W
Mr. Burden

asked the Attorney-General if he is aware that legal aid is refused to poor persons with an income of over £4 per week; that no allowances are made for compulsory deductions from the gross income £4 of per week; and if he will consider the advisability in the present circumstances of raising the present income limit.

The Attorney-General

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Bristol Central (Lady Apsley) on 26th January, when I stated that my Noble Friend the Lord Chancellor has under active consideration at the present time the whole of the system for giving legal aid to the poorer sections of the community. I am not yet in a position to add anything to what I then said.
