HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c411W
Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the grave criticism which has been made against the mass radiology scheme; and whether he is satisfied that more reliable and economical results could be achieved by clinical examinations?

Mr. E. Brown

I am not aware of any substantial disagreement with the recommendation of the Medical Research Council's Committee on Tuberculosis in wartime, which reported in September last year, in favour of the controlled use of mass radiography as a means of securing detection of tuberculosis at an earlier and more controllable stage of the disease. As regards the last part of the Question, it has never been suggested that Mass radiography can replace clinical examination: its function is to indicate the cases in which clinical examination is desirable.
