HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c409W
Mr. Kendall

asked the Minister of Health whether it is intended that powers for safeguarding the quality of milk, at present vested in local authorities under the Food and Drugs Act, 1938, and Orders and Regulations thereunder, shall be transferred to the Minister of Agriculture?

Mr. E. Brown

The scope of the powers proposed in the recent White Paper to be transferred to the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries is at present the subject of discussions. Broadly, the object is to make the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries responsible for conditions under which milk is produced at the farm, but the existing powers of local authorities in respect of milk infected with disease or in respect of adulterated milk would not be affected.
