HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c258W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Home Secretary whether the public can be permitted to remove sandbags from the front of their houses in view of the small relative value these now possess in fire fighting?

Mr. H. Morrison

Experience has shown that sandbags are unsuitable for dealing with the new types of incendiary bomb except in special circumstances—e.g. in hospital wards where drastic action may be necessary to avoid loss of life. Sandbags may, therefore, now be removed from the front of houses.
