HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 cc258-9W
Mr. Driberg

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works whether the restoration of daylight to the Library of this House is to be extended to the Chamber?

Mr. Hicks

To restore daylight to the Chamber it would be necessary to remove the absorbent tiles which have been fixed in the windows to improve the acoustics. The National Physical Laboratory recommended this scheme after an exhaustive investigation and the consideration of all possible alternatives and I am advised that it would not be possible to provide natural lighting to the Chamber without detriment to the acoustics.
