HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 c222W
Mr. Parker

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the criticisms which are prevalent of the existing Patent Laws; and, in view of the dangers to the future prosperity of this country of the restrictive practices alleged to be followed by patent holders, whether he will consider setting up a departmental committee or a Royal Commission to inquire into these practices and to make recommendations as to the reform of the Patent Laws generally?

Captain Waterhouse

My right hon. Friend is aware that there is some criticism of the Patent Laws, but it is doubtful whether this criticism pays full regard to the remedies already provided against the abuse of restrictive practices. He will be glad to examine specific instances in which it may be alleged that patent holders are adopting such measures, but in present circumstances the comprehensive inquiry suggested by my hon. Friend would not be justified.
