HC Deb 22 September 1943 vol 392 cc227-8W
Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Production whether he will meet the urgent demand for the erection of new houses and the renovation of older ones to make them habitable in Northern Ireland by releasing the necessary building material for that purpose, more especially as tradesmen are available for the work?

Mr. Lyttelton

Proposals have been put before me by the Northern Ireland Government for the erection of new houses to meet certain special needs in Northern Ireland and I have agreed in principle to the allocation of the essential materials required for this purpose in accordance with war-time specifications. The details are under consideration by the Government of Northern Ireland. So far as the reconditioning of houses damaged by enemy action is concerned, supplies have already been made available for all such repairs as have been approved.
