HC Deb 21 September 1943 vol 392 c68W
Sir H. Webbe

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether efficiency tests are now laid down for members of the Royal Observer Corps; after what length of service personnel upon posts have to pass tests; whether failure to attain minimum standards compels retirement; whether tests have now been applied in all areas; and, if not, how soon this will be done?

Sir A. Sinclair

A scheme of efficiency tests for Royal Observer Corps personnel employed at posts has been drawn up, and is now being applied. All members of the corps employed at posts will be required to take the basic test, and it is the intention that new entrants will be examined within six months of enrolment. Two attempts will be allowed, the interval between them being a. matter for decision by the Group Officer concerned. Failure to pass the test at the second attempt will normally involve termination of service. It is expected that the scheme will be in full operation about the end of the year.
