HC Deb 19 October 1943 vol 392 c1230W
Mr. Pritt

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in a recent issue of the "War Office Weekly Review of Intelligence," designed to be read by all officers, the Soviet demand for the opening of a second front is described as more persistent in its boring monotony than any previous one; and whether he will put a stop to the use in official publications of language calculated to excite resentment or hostility against the Soviet Union?

Sir J. Grigg

This mistake was due to careless editing and not design. I have taken steps which I hope will prevent a repetition. The opinion expressed no more represents the official view of the War Office than it does of the Foreign Office. I would remind the hon. and learned Member that the document was marked "Secret" and that its contents could only have reached the public by an unauthorised disclosure of which I take a serious view.
