HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 c1069W
Sir A. Knox

asked the Minister of Health what was the cost of the two houses recently erected at Hildenborough, Kent; how does this compare with the cost of similar houses previous to the war; and what was the net profit made by the builders?

Mr. E. Brown

The finished building cost of the two houses at Hildenborough is £1,666. Local authorities rarely let contracts for the erection of houses in such small numbers before the war, but judging by average prices two similar houses might reasonably be assumed to have cost £1,036. I have no factual information as to the contractors' profits on house building either now or before the war.
