HC Deb 14 October 1943 vol 392 cc1074-5W
Sir A. Beit

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the improved position in the Mediterranean, an opportunity will be offered to Gibraltarians evacuated to Great Britain to return home as and when shipping becomes available?

Mr. Emrys-Evans

I am sure that the House will have every sympathy with the desire of these people to return to their homes, and I am, of course, aware of the shortage of accommodation in London. But I fear that the situation is not such as to permit of any arrangements being made for the Gibraltarians to return at present.
