HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c751W
Major Petherick

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power how much coal has been exported from the United Kingdom to Sicily since the first allied attack; how much is now under order; and how much of these quantities is estimated to be for the use of the civilian population?

Major Lloyd George

My hon. and gallant Friend will appreciate that it would not be in the public interest to supply this information. For the Government's policy on the supply of coal to ex-enemy countries, I would refer him to the statement which I made on the 4th August in reply to a Question by the Member for Leigh (Mr. Tinker) and to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Deputy Prime Minister on 23rd September in reply to a Question by the hon. Member for Newport (Sir R. Clarry).
