HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c737W
Major Mills

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that 21 weekly newspapers circulate in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight; in how many of these the Ministry is advertising for national savings purposes; what rates in each case are being paid per single column inch; and whether these rates are based on circulation?

Mr. Assheton

The National Savings Committee advertises in eleven of these newspapers. The rate paid for the advertising is in no case more than the paper's lowest trade rate. Rate in relation to circulation was the main factor governing the selection of these papers for advertising purposes.
