HC Deb 30 November 1943 vol 395 cc234-5W
Mr. Colegate

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of firms in the United Kingdom employing approximately 5,000 men and over, together with the total number of persons employed by all such firms and the estimated proportion of these employees to the total number of people employed?

Mr. Dalton

The total number of such firms in industrial production in 1935—the latest year for which particulars are available—was 98. The number of persons employed was 1,108,000 persons or 14 per cent. of the total number of persons engaged in these industries.
