HC Deb 31 March 1943 vol 388 c186W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with the charge made against Judah Woolf, of Bignor Street, Hightown, Manchester, charged, at the Leeds Assizes, for obtaining and selling saccharin tablets as full strength when they were only half strength; and what steps he is taking to prevent a repetition of this fraud?

Mr. Peake

I am informed that this man was convicted on two charges of obtaining money by false pretences and was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment with hard labour. I understand from my Noble Friend the Minister of Food that as the sale by retail of full-strength and half-strength saccharin tablets has been prohibited as from 31st January, 1943, and sales are now confined to standard tablets, a repetition of the fraud committed by Woolf is not likely to occur.
