HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 c48W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the collieries or districts where apprenticeship to coalmining has now been established; and when it is expected that this will become universal in the coalfields?

Major Lloyd George

The importance of adequate training for coalmining is recognised by me and by all sections of the industry, and certain measures have been taken and more are to follow. But apprenticeship in the full sense of the word is commonly the practice in coalmining only as regards some of the ancillary crafts such as fitting and electrical work, and I am advised that any universal system would not be possible.
