HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc48-9W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the collieries closed by his Department and whether the workers directed to employment at other collieries are being assisted where additional travelling expenses are incurred or in the cost of the removal of household furniture, etc., to other districts?

Major Lloyd George

Up to the present eight pits have been closed by my Department. I am sending the names to my hon. Friend. A further 12 pits will be closed shortly. Arrangements have now been made whereby the fares to be charged to miners transferred under a concentration scheme shall not be greater than the cost which they incurred for transportation to their former place of work. Men so far transferred have been placed in other collieries in the neighbour- hood and there have been no cases in which household removal has been necessary.
