HC Deb 30 March 1943 vol 388 cc41-2W
Mr. W. Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that it is the announced policy of the Government to ensure that over a period of 10 or 15 years there should be fair steady continuity of values, he is now prepared to revise the policy in respect of the pensions of retired State servants, the value of whose pensions has been depreciated by 30 per cent. or more since the beginning of the war and who have received no relief whatever in this respect?

Sir K. Wood

No, Sir. For reasons which have been fully explained, Civil Service pensioners could not be selected for special treatment which cannot be given to other persons who have to live on fixed incomes.
