HC Deb 10 June 1943 vol 390 c867W
Major McCallum

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works who was the authority responsible for the decision to remove the gate from Achaleven School, in the village of Connel, for salvage purposes, thus leaving no obstacle to prevent the schoolchildren from running out from the playground on to the main Oban-Stirling high-road, along which there is a constant stream of heavy motor-lorries, motor-omnibuses and motor transport?

Mr. Hicks

This school gate, which was removed by contractors employed by my Department, had been duly scheduled by the county council for removal and the appropriate officials of the council who were consulted on the question of safety, confirmed the scheduling.
